Seventh Grade Religion invites the students to meet the Jesus of history and the Christ of faith. Armchair pilgrimages to the Holy Land via videos, maps, and the written word allow the seventh graders to see how Jesus' culture affected His ministry.
The Jesus of Scripture is seen in teachings of the gospels. Students recall familiar stories of Jesus and discover ways to live out their messages. Interwoven throughout the discussion of the miracles and parables are lives of the saints which provide inspiration and encouragement for our journey.
The Jesus of faith is manifested in the sacraments, the Passion narratives, and the lives of the faithful believers.
Hopefully at year's end, each student will have a heartfelt answer to the question Jesus poses to each of us: "Who do you say I am?" That response is at the very center of each child's faith.
Eighth graders study God's faithful love as it is revealed in the Church founded by Jesus Christ. Students learn what makes Catholics distinct as they increase their appreciation for Catholic identity, practices, and beliefs. Attention is focused on the Holy Spirit who has guided our Church through its peaks and valleys for over two-thousand years. Throughout the course, role models of faith, past and present, are introduced to the eighth graders. These faithful men and women demonstrate what it means to be a follower of Jesus and a member of the Church.
